About me and my car

Hi Everyone

my car

last year I bought a 1973 MGB GT with new paint for $500 dollars

This is what I have done so far

The water pump was seized with rust.

I bought a new gas tank.

The compression was low on one cylinder so I removed the cylinder head and refinished the valve seats and the compression went back up.

Started it up for the first time and all most went Def . Big Smile

Bought a exhaust system.

Rebuilt the clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinder.

Bought a new slave cylinder.

Removed the front suspension sand blasted it painted it replaced the bushings and reinstalled it.

I Removed the rear suspension replaced the thrust washers sand blasted it and the leaf springs painted them replaced the bushings and reinstalled it.

Replaced the wheel cylinders brake hoses and pads.

The brake master cylinder started leaking again so I bought a new one.

This sounds just like ME when I was your age! I got a 1956 MGA from my dad in 1968 when I was in Jr. High and couldn't drive yet. My dad had purchased the car for about $400: it ran badly and was a basket case with bad body damage and really bad paint.

I spent the next five years gradually restoring it: although we never did a frame-off restoration, we had most of the body apart.

One thing that helped: when I was in high school I dated a girl that had a 1958 Mercedes 190 SL that she had been restoring for about as long. When we went on dates, there was about a 50/50 chance that we'd be pushing one or the other of our cars home.

Today I still have that 1956 MGA, recently reacquired from my dad. Now when I get in it and start the engine I feel like I'm 17 again and going out on a date - with my wife, of course!

Best luck to you with your project. I hope you have as much fun as I did for as many years!
