A heartfelt thanks...

Hi all...

I finally figured out how to post a blog...Not bad for an old girl...

The purpose of this blog is taking a minute to thank the people in our lives that are very tolerant of our fave pasttime.  Mine happens to be my significant other, he is not a LBC lover, although he has come to respect the gutsy little cars.He is also helping me look for my "A" and is showing signs of genuine interest and is voicing opinions on body styles (loves the big Healey's) and colors, wheels, etc. This is pretty major considering his love (next to me.. LOL..) is his 1991 Cadillac Eldorado Baritz,so you can see what giant headway I have made! But all joking aside most of us (if we're lucky) have got someone in our life who tollerates the fine madness that is part and parcel of British car ownership,so don't forget to thank them once in awhile 'cause it takes a very special person to understand and put up with our idiosyncrasy. So having said this I think that as soon as the weather is better, I will wash and wax the "land yacht", because  he deserves it....Cheers

I think that is wonderful! Sharing "vehicle time" with your "significant other" is an important part of modern life: we spend so much time together in our cars that it is important that both partners enjoy the experience. His respect for the "LBC" is s great step, although it's really hard for most guys to *NOT* enjoy the looks and feel of an LBC.

My wife and I had our first date (back in '79) in my MGA, and I think that had a great part to play in our eventual marriage. She also got involved in the maintenance of our cars for many years (she's one of the best parts dogs around!), but she's an engineer, so this MIGHT be "natural".

I guess the other side of this story is your acceptance of that Eldo as part of *YOUR* life as well. That's one thing I can't get my wife to enjoy: plush "boat" rides like Cads and Lincs. She grew up with off-roaders, so I guess getting the LBC in the picture is a pretty good deal.

Well, congrats on getting a blog started! Keep us up to date with your adventures!

Hi Rita!

I'm glad that you pointed out that it's not only women who sometimes complain about these cars. While women might be more likely to not understand the love for LBC's, i think a majority of the population is with them.

In my experience, very few people of any age have interest in my car. Especially guys my age- they think a classic car that doesn't have a hemi is worthless.

But finding someone who is understanding enough to put up with the time and money we put into these cars for driving a few miles is something truly special.

Cheers!

Ah, Vanessa, you must live in L.A.! Only there is "The Fast and the Furious" still played out!

I have had some marvelous experiences with my MGA "on the road". Everywhere I go I get folks - young and old - stopping to marvel at the car. Especially twenty-something boys and girls. They all OOOH and AHHHH over it, then ask where they can get one! Often I'll let them take the car for a (supervised) spin around the block - THAT usually hooks 'em good!

Of course, the most important person to "impress" is your significant other. I got my wife to really like riding in the MG last November in Jacksonville. She flew in to meet me for a drive in the motor home back to Indy. When I came to meet her, I brought a new leather jacket, a sweater, an MG toque and a scarf for her to wear. We strapped her suitcase to the luggage rack, she donned her new apparel, and loved the brisk ride back to the campground! So now she's always read for a quick ride to the store or work! She even drives occasionally - we both have a "stick" habit - and is learning to enjoy the "busy" way you need to control the car.

So, keep up the Evangelical work, Vanessa! Even if they ignore you now, eventually their curiosity will kill 'em...
