    hi performance vs. gas milage

    Here's our delima:

    Should we rebuild the engine on our 74 B (early) with high performance parts or stick to stock?

    Do the 8:71 pistons make a noticable difference in road performance?  Does the hi-perf cam make that much of a difference?  and how much better is the hi volume oil pump from the stock oil pump?  What about the timing chain... the stock one is $50 & the high performance is $300.  i like the kick ass performance but also we need to be realistic about what really matters, which is getting the car back on the road.  The BIG question is:  If we do go the performance route how will that effect the gas milage.  Even when the engine was worn out and the HIF carbs dumping raw gas, it was still getting about 38 mpg.  Will a high performance rebuild reduce the gas much?

    Gimme some feedback here.

    this car is not a daily driver at the moment. and as long as you don't have a huge commute to work (when it's finished) then go all out.

    i tell you know you'll enjoy it that much more.

    someone once told me;

    "if you dont have the time to do it right, you sure wont have enough to do it again."

     good luck.
