Thanks for asking where I've been, you made my day!

My dad had a massive stroke and it "ain't good". He's been saying that he wished he gotten shot in the jungles of the Phillipines (WW2) instead of being where he is today. I've been spending most of my time holding his hand and my moms.

To boot, (no pun intended...you'll see), I crushed my right foot when disengaging my boat trailer from my tractor. I'd been out of work and in much pain for the past 2 weeks.

I'm tellin' ya, enjoy what you can, while you can because ya just never know!

Oh, Man.... My heart sinks when I think about your Dad.  We owe those fellows so much. I hate it..

 Broke your foot on a boat trailer? Come on now,davey, you got to be kiddin me. 

 My car is running fine with the exception of my heat sensitive ZS carbs. Got to put up with it until October. Well not really, I could rob Peter and pay Paul and get a pair of SU's. But I just spent a few bocks putting a "fan eliminator" and an electric fan on Ol' Basil.

  Getting rid of that drag from the big, red, crank driven fan made a noticeable difference. The engine speed doesn't drop off as much during the clutching. Made the shifts go smoother.

 I been working, but not much. Getting too hot to take it everyday.  Lots of good racing on TV this weekend. That's where I'll be.

  davey, I'm going to be thinking about your Dad. Tell him one of your sports car friends says "thanks".

As a 12 yr Navy Veteran, I can say with pride my own service to our country was inspired greatly by the service and great sacrifices of "The Greatest Generation" -- I too want to send Davey and his Dad best wishes for a speedy recovery and a hearty THANK YOU!!

I'm pulling for your dad. I feel I'm in his debt. And I'm sorry about your throttle foot as well. Life sure throws stuff at us at times, doesn't it? It seems to me that you're a strong and resilient guy, however, and better days are always ahead.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad.  I will keep him and your mom in my thoughts and prayers.  As for you, take care of that foot.  It's very useful for enjoying seat time in your LBC.

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad (your foots not so hot either!). I know first hand what your going through, my Dad was in the 51st division Black Watch (know as the ladies from hell) and was captured very early in the beginning of the war. He was moved around from P.O.W. camp to P.O.W. all across Europe and even near the Russian border. He never complained about his fate and when he was released from his last camp he went to Germany to help in the recovery . He always said that the Germany people were the most gracious and thankful people he had ever encountered and that is were he met my Mom!

I lost my Dad 7 yrs. ago( physically ) but unfortunately I lost him much sooner to dementia. He often relived the war in his later years and it broke my heart to see him go through that part of his life a second time,yet I would go through it all again just to see him smile at me when he had a lucid moment and would recognize me.

So be strong my friend because that is the very least we owe these very brave men and women!

Thanks for your thoughts, you really do meet the nicest people in the Moss forum don't you!

I will print these responses and read them to Dad. I know he'll get a kick out of hearing from people that he never even met.

For the record, he was in the Army Air Corps 13th Division. An air, sea rescue squad in the Phillipines. I learned much more about the war from him than any history book or teacher although he'd never talk about what HE actually did, only the others around him and the concerns of the times.

Although he did enjoy the series "Band of Brothers" on HBO and gave it his blessing for accuracy, he always said that those guys in Europe had it easy compared to the guys in the South Pacific theater. Fighting in jungles rather than towns and cities, there are no food stock to grab, showers/toilets to find, or farmer's daughters to help pass the time! I guess I'll have to take his word for it!

Give my best wishes to your Dad too. Mine was a "Greatest Generation" member too and served in the South Pacific in the Army Field Artillery. They may have even met each other at some time.
