The male threads on the housing of my 1967 BJ8 windshield wiper motor are worn smooth.  The cap that hold the linkage cable tight in the motor will not stay on, allowing the cable to slop around, so the wipers clean about 4" of the windshield.  A new wiper motor is no longer available.  Any thoughts for repair?

Dan, There is a kit by "Heli-Coil" that lets you re-insert new threads in metal and plastic items. Go to thier web site, link below, and see if they have your size. They work great in most situations like yours. Worth a try. PJ

The threads should be on a separate part which can be removed by removing the top cover of the wiper gearbox.  You then must remove the drive cable to get the threaded ferrule off the cable.  I can't find a listing for this anywhere for your car, but I believe Moss part number 163-700 should be the correct one.

Eric, I understood him to say the threads in the housing were bad and the cover would not stay tight, not the cable or it's actuator. Was I mistaken? PJ
