I bought a 1969 MGB about 2 weeks ago and have been glued to google and this forum for several days now.  Great content guys/gals!  She sure is fun to drive.

Several questions I haven't found the answers to; At idle, oil pressure is 50 and running it is 80.  Isn't this a little high?  Is is bad?

 What do you carry as far as spare parts and tools in the boot?

Your oil pressure is very, very good! Right where it should be and then some (if your meter is accurate).

Tools in the boot include a cell phone and too much money....just kidding. Actually, contrary to belief, these cars are very reliable overall. Keep some oil, water and DOT 3 in there, but other than that, if you keep her maintained, you should have no worries!

Don't worry, the feeling never wears off - you are going to have lots of fun.

Might I recommend keeping a set of spark plugs, distributor points and condenser (if it's not been converted to electronic ignition)? Of course a few basic tools to cover fitting these spares is also a goos idea. Spare bulbs (brake light, indicator etc.) are easy to tuck away. Last but not least, a roll of paper towels. Never know when they might be useful!

Assuming the oil gauge is correct, your oil pressure is excellent.  Nothing to worry about.

There is very little I'm willing to fix on the side of the road.  I carry a couple of hose clamps (leftover from the last time I replaced heater hoses), bulbs (the opened packages with one in them), and a quart of oil.  The tools I carry are a six-in-one screwdriver, a #2 posidriv screwdriver, AAA Plus card, credit card, and a cell phone.

The car looks great, and I'm sure you will have many fun and adventure filled hours in it. I'm slightly jealous of your clean garage floor. As much as I hate to admit it, after forty years in the Britcar business and as an enthusiast, MGs leak. Get some cardboard or drip pans for the floor under your car. You'll not be sorry for the investment.

Well motorbill66 I'm finding she does leak.  There is a drip pan under her for the overdrive that leaks (I knew that when I bought her).  This afternoon I jacked her up and tightened the Sump cover bolts hoping that will take care of it; they were not tight and just looked up the replacement filter/gasket in Moss.

 I just noticed that there is spittle of oil coming from the tail pipe when I cranked her up this afternoon and a loss of engine oil while driving with just two drops under the engine.  I looked at the plugs, but see nothing there as far as oil deposits.  I haven't fooled around with an engine in over 25 years and even then I was just the nurse not the doctor, and have no idea where to look for a diagnosis.  No smoke and the clean plugs have me some confused.

 My wife is now saying "I'm getting you some coveralls dangit!"

 

Any ideas (not about the coveralls)?

Only two drops of oil?  Either it's running dry or you've got an extremely rare British motor - one that can actually retain it's vital fluids.  Enjoy the car! 

Right. If you've only got two drops of oil then you better check to make sure the sump is not empty.
