Hi guys,
Ive done the job on a YB [ and as we all know, the TD was a weekend redesign on a YA chassis?! ] So I think things should be the same for a TD conversion.
As Bill says its a significant job, complete MGB front hub assemblies plus disc, caliper etc will be required. I modified the arms of my existing front shock absorbers [ no big job two spacer discs tack welded onto arms] It may be possible to use MGB shockers I will check the hole spacing . They are of course a lot cheaper than TD!
I stayed with the Existing Master cylinder, a new one that Id purchased before thinking about moving to LH drive and disc brakes. If you do this you will need a seperate additional brake fluid reservoir,[ no big deal], disc calipers need more fluid to drive them than the old slaves and foot movement!. I also took the opportunity to put in a remote vac servo system.
Shorter track rods will be needed, I think I used ones off a Midget , You could extend the thread on your existing rods with a suitable die.
I should make two extra comments, I have not driven the car yet and I have a slight niggle about caster angle and the car was undergoing a complete rebuild at the time, substantial mods like this are a darn sight easier during a rebuild!!
Disc wheels, as Bill said MGA, 4-stud 15 inch, make sure they are the later deep dish ones otherwise they will foul the calipers. I stuck with the existing back axle and found a four stud drum that would fit. With the TD, a move to wire wheels might be indicated?? conversion kit for the rear wheels?
To end up , its definitely on to do a disc conversion, good winter project!! Collect all the bits, reconditioned and shiny, and wait until Bill gets the detailed assembly process together .
Cheers steve
