    Road Trip Time

The summer was spent under my A swearing and getting bloody knuckled, but the effort is going to pay off soon.  I'm going to go on a road trip with me, my iPod and my A from Chicago to Portland.  Now here comes the important part, Car preparation.  I ask you, the well seasoned and informed group of this forum, what is in your roadbag?  Also, What have been your experiences with A's on extended trips?  Any tips or tricks?  Any pitfalls?  Things I should look out for?  Let me hear your tales and learn from experience.

    Thanks!

    Re: Road Trip Time

    HI there,

Best of luck on Your road trip. I would first do a short Highway trip say 100 mile 50/50 Just to test the old girl and work the bugs out. Take with You a cell phone and make sure Your AAA is up to date. There is no need to worry British cars usually give You warning when something is going to go wrong just think safety first. Hope this helps...

    Re: Road Trip Time

I hope the weather holds out for you (not in a sceptical way...sincere hope). That is a very northerly route so late in the year...it will be cool. I agree with Agil, but include a heater hose as well. I would also suggest running the valves before you leave. I had a rocker nut back off once mid-trip and would have caught it had I adjusted the valves before leaving. I bent a pushrod, so, if you have a spare, throw one in. Best of luck.

    Re: Road Trip Time

A relaxed schedule, a small digital multimeter ( for finding those Lucus smoke leaks), and tires less than 5 years old.  Motorbill's shop is in northern Colorado (Fort Collins), if you need repairs/advice/encouragement/donuts enroute.

Have fun, I'm envious.  Post your trip here, please!
