    lucas coil replacement 1600 MGA

GeekedAny idea what standard aviable coil will replace my lucas coil, I don't want the sport coil as offered by Moss. I need a coil with the plug tpye of HT tower connection as opposed to the slip in HT tower as on the Lucas coil,My new set of plug wires has the plug type connector. What is the output of the lucas coil,as a matter of question? Any help appreciated

I'm a bit confused about your use of the term "plug type" or "Slip In".

The critical thing about the coil is that it is a non-ballasted 12V unit. Most American coils and ones for late model cars are designed to have an external ballast. If you use one of these, your points will melt down.

The original coil as shown in the catalog has a threaded top, and a plastic nut is used to hold the bare wire into the coil.

If you are looking for a more modern coil designed for a plug in type coil wire (modern design) you can use the early MGB coil, but this has the same connector as the current Lucas Sports Coil, so I'm a bit confused.

Re: lucas coil replacement 1600 MGA

Merry Christmas Kelvin, thanks for the answer,The early MGB coil sounds like what I need,I don't want to use an external resistor.I have the orginal coil type with the threaded top & nut( slip in I call it) Would you have the moss number handy,if not I can look it up . I really did'nt want the sport coil.  My coil works just fine but I bought these new plug wires & different cap from Moss and found out that the HT lead had a plug type connector.
