I have just put in a Moss improved street cam (part # 851-051)......supposed to add a little "grunt".  Does anyone have any experience with this thing with regards to timing advance adustments etc  ?

    Re: Timing Question

    John,

Are we talking about cam timing or ignition timing?

    Re: Timing Question

    Motorbill,

Didn't mean to be glib.  Sorry.  I'm vaguely aware of cam timing but have no skills whatsoever in this area.  The cam was put in by the machine shop and I assume from the volume of work they do on British cars that it was done properly.  I didn't give it a lot of thought at the time and assumed that the specs would be on the cam.  I have the ignition timing at 15 deg BTDC at idle ...seems to go better than at the stock 6 deg......the car sounds great at 3000 rpm but doesn't idle too well below 1500 rpm.  I'm also twiddling with 40 year old carburetors.... a separate issue.  With all these variables I was looking to see if there was any experience out there so that I could put the timing issue to bed.

     Thanks.....John

    Re: Timing Question

    Just a general note here...

Tuning the carbs is an exercise in futility until you get your timing issue settled. The timing and dwell must be spot on before attempting to adjust the carbies.

    Re: Timing Question

Car is now running as smoothly as I can hope for.  Idles at 900...lumpy below that but I think its caburettors not the timing.  The mild street cam makes itself heard at higher revs....lower torque at lower revs....other than that not a whole lot of difference.
