I have a rubber bumper 1975 model. It became necessary to replace the alternator (damaged beyond repair) and all literature pointed towards the Lucas 18ACR. Local MG Specialist supplied me with with a new GEU2206 (could get a refurb unit.) Since the fan was also damaged on the old unit, I bought (through Moss Motors) the only listed fan ("for all models") C37222A. I still have the pulley off the original alternator. I also purchased a screw to mount the adjusting link to the alternator. (SH505051.)
It is now time to fit the fan, and I discover:
- The diameter of the hole in the fan is too small for the shaft!
- The thread on the screw for the adjusting link is not correct for the alternator
At least the original pulley fits the shaft of the alternator.
Now I have a question of anyone who has been down this road, and successfully replaced the 1975 MGB alternator with a new one - what parts am I supposed to use? I haven't even bothered checking whether the new alternator will fit onto the engine. After spending in the region of £100 already on this little exercise, I am fast losing the will to live.
Anybody with advice, please help!
Cheers.
