    Disc brake conversion for TD

Has anyone done one of these? How hard and what can I expect in the way of cost? I believe in keeping original as much as possible but "Safety fast"!! --k

    kayarbro,

Yes, this can be done. We have done it in the shop for some customers, however, it is a lot more work than you might wish on yourself, involving a different master cylinder and linkage, MGB front suspension and brakes, MGA wheels if you have steel wheels, and a modified MGB rear axle and housing, modified to fit the TD. This is the only combination that will give you good disc brakes and the original look. In fact, once you put the TD hub caps on the MGA wheels nobody can tell at all, unless they know their T cars and lay down under the front end. If you have a taste for this, repost and when I finish the 12 page article I'm writing on it, I'll make sure you are notified.

Re: Disc brake conversion for TD

    Guys,

I know it's been a long time since I offered help with this. Life has lately become quite complicated for me, and the shop has eaten any time left over. I need to locate my original rough draft of the article I wrote on this subject and edit it. I'm hoping to find time for that soon. Other subscribers may have noticed that I haven't been quite as active in general lately. It's not because I don't wish to participate, or that I no longer care.

Life, as we all know quite well, takes many unexpected twists and turns, and mine has been twisting and turning quite a bit of late. While I enjoy these characteristics in a road, they can be tough in other contexts. I'll get back on the straightaway soon though, I'm sure. Cheers.

Re: Disc brake conversion for TD

Hi -- my first time here.  Any progress on the writeup on converting a TD to disc brakes?  I've got one completely torn down for rebuild & this would be the time to do it. Would sure like to get my hands on how the pros do it!!  I'd happily settle for the draft if the final isn't yet available.
