Started in 1925 as a car brake manufacturer, Albert H. Girling patented a wedge-actuated braking system. Girling later developed disc brakes, which were successful in automotive racing in the early 1950s, continuing through 1970. All brake manufacture was taken over by Lucas in 1938. Lucas then moved its Bendix brake and Luvax shock absorbers into a new company which became Girling Ltd. Today it is known for it's vintage applications as Girling Classic.
