As Configured

Upgrade and modernize your brakes with these newly designed Cobalt brake cylinders.

Jaguar and Dunlop were disc brake pioneers, but technology - courtesy of Moss Motors and Cobalt - has moved on. Our modern caliper cylinders offer superior longevity and performance at a fraction of the price of original-type replacements yet retain a period-correct appearance and install with no modifications required.

The Dunlop cylinders fitted to Jaguars were "backwards" compared to modern parts, as the cylinder bore was the sealing surface, and the hydraulic seal was at the end of the piston near the bottom of the bore. This seal position allowed water infiltration into the cylinder bores, causing corrosion on the sealing surface, and braking performance suffered. Repair solutions are expensive: complete replacement or sleeving and machining the bores back to original dimensions. Not surprisingly, this configuration was expensive, difficult-to manufacture, and was later abandoned.

Our Cobalt cylinders are designed like any modern caliper in that the hydraulic seal gland is in the housing bore, and the forged, ground, and satin-chrome-plated piston becomes the sealing surface. Not only is this a superior configuration, but it is much more cost effective and yields substantially longer service life.

Please note that these cylinders require the use of modern style brake pads that employ a thick steel backing plate, like our premium Classic Gold brake pads. Do not use or replace with OE-style brake pads that do not have the thicker backing plate as featured on the Classic Gold brake pads. Replacement Classic Gold pads available separately; part number 10873CER (Ceramic) or 10873SMT (Semi-metallic).

We sell the cylinders as axle sets of four Cobalt cylinders with Classic Gold brake pads.
